When an in-game damage number deviates from a calculator projection by 1 HP or an execute triggers unexpectedly, it is almost always caused by engine-level integer truncation, trigger resolution FIFO, or draw variance. Use this guide to diagnose calculation discrepancies.
Why did my in-game Doom execute fail when the enemy had equal Doom stacks?
In Slay the Spire 2, execution requires playing a card with the explicit "Execute" keyword (such as End of Days or Sentence). Simply having Doom equal to enemy HP does not kill the enemy on end-of-turn tick—Doom only triggers when an execute card resolves or a secondary trigger activates. Check our Doom Calculator to verify if your played card possesses the execute flag.
Why does my real combat damage differ by 1 or 2 points from the calculator output?
Slay the Spire 2 applies integer floor truncation at each intermediate step of calculation rather than at the end of the chain. For example, if Vulnerable (1.5x) is applied to an attack boosted by Strength and Pen Nib (2x), the game calculates: Floor(Base * PenNib) -> Floor(Result + Strength) -> Floor(Result * 1.5). Fractional damage is always discarded at each stage.
Why did my Draw Probability calculator show a 40% chance, but I drew 0 key cards over 3 combats?
Hypergeometric distribution models the probability of a single independent hand draw. A 40% probability means that across 1,000 trials, approximately 400 hands will contain the target card. In a short sample of 3 combats, the probability of missing a 40% event three consecutive times is (1 - 0.4)^3 = 21.6%—meaning more than 1 in 5 players will experience this exact dry spell purely due to variance.
Does Ascension level change enemy HP scaling in the Co-op Calculator?
Yes. At Ascension 7 and above, normal enemies gain higher base HP; at Ascension 8 and 9, Elites and Bosses gain expanded health pools. Our Co-op HP Calculator includes an Ascension toggle to adjust baseline values before applying multiplayer party multipliers (1.75x for 2P, 2.45x for 3P, 3.10x for 4P).
Why did my Campfire Optimizer suggest Smithing when I died on the next floor?
The Campfire Optimizer calculates Expected Value (EV) over the remaining floors of the Act. When an outcome is marked "Greedy Smith", it indicates that while upgrading saves substantial HP long-term, you still carry a non-zero lethal risk (typically 15–30%) on turn 1–2 of the next elite combat if your card draw rolls poorly. If you lack defensive potions, you should override greedy recommendations and choose Rest.
Found a Genuine Formula Bug?
If you have cross-verified an in-game combat result with integer truncation and still observe a math defect, our telemetry team wants to review your seed and combat log.
